It’s important to maintain your firearm by inspecting and cleaning it regularly.
WARNING – Never disassemble your Mongoose further than what is necessary to clean it. Further disassembly will void your warranty unless performed by a NEMO approved armorer.
NOTE - Follow the unloading, safety, and field stripping instructions above.
NOTE – It’s important to field strip your firearm down to the major components every time you clean your Mongoose. Cleaning by merely inserting a cleaning rod from the muzzle can cause dirt, oil, and lubricant to build up inside the firearm causing malfunction.
Cleaning items needed: nylon brush, cleaning rod and patch jag, carbon removing solvent/gun cleaner and CLP (cleaner/lubricant/preservative).
Refer to the Mongoose parts terminology as needed.
UPPER RECEIVER
1. Clean the internal part of the upper receiver using a mild solvent.
2. Remove carbon build up, debris, dirt, brass and lubricant using cotton swabs and nylon brushes.
3. Lightly lubricate the upper receiver leaving a light film. NOTE - Over-lubricating can cause unburned powder and other debris to collect and prevent your firearm from functioning properly. |
BARREL
4. Inspect your barrel for any cracks, bulges, or obstructions. Contact NEMO Support for replacement or repair if you see any cracks or bulges.
5. Clean the exterior of the barrel at the locking lug interface, breech entrance, and outer diameter.
6. Clean the barrel using a carbon cleaner solvent or CLP only. Use a clean patch and soak it with the solvent/CLP and soak the barrel.
7. Use a nylon or poly brush and stroke the barrel 5-8 times. NOTE - Do not use a stainless-steel brush in your barrel at any time.
8. Push a CLP soaked patch through the barrel.
9. Repeat cleaning if patch is fouled.
10. Lubricate the outer diameter and locking surfaces. For Storage - After cleaning the barrel, run a CLP patch through the barrel for storage. Store your firearm in a cool, dry place to prevent rusting or corrosion. Prior to Firing - Run a dry patch through barrel prior to shooting. |
BOLT
11. Clean the bolt (especially the bolt face and extractor claw area) with solvent and a nylon brush.
12. Lightly lubricate the bolt body.
13. Remove firing pin retaining pin to release and remove the firing pin. NOTE - It’s not necessary to remove the firing pin spring. WARNING – If you remove the firing pin spring… DO NOT reassemble the firearm without the firing pin spring.
14. Clean and inspect the firing pin. |
LOWER RECEIVER
15. Clean and inspect the feed ramp and bolt catches.
16. Remove residual oil and debris from the trigger group. 17. Use compressed air to blow off the trigger group. 18. Flush liberally with a light lubricant CLP or equivalent. 19. Blow off excess lubricant with compressed air.
20. Lubricate each side of the disconnector above the trigger pin.
21. Lubricate the hammer and trigger sears.
22. Lubricate the face of the disconnector.
23. Lubricate the top of each side of the hammer spring where the spring contacts the receiver wall |
